Pre-Research

When selecting a topic you can explore with these general resources.

Wikipedia

Google

You cannot cite these resources but that doesn't mean you shouldn't get a valuable overview of your topic.

Click on the image above to go to our catalog. You can also go straight to the shelves because many health topics can be found in this Dewey section 616. Do not use this number in a search however.

Kindle Books

We have two Kindles to lend to anyone who needs to order a book instantly.

Slideshare

Slideshare is a collection of presentations including Powerpoint, Open Office and PDF book formats. For example, see this pdf book on Addiction.  This looks promising for the few topics I checked. Try it!

Blog Search Engines

Blogs are a good place to search for current content. Try one of these search engines:

Twitter Feed

Health topics are current news, and you can find resources streaming through Twitter feeds. Here's how.

  1. Go to http://search.twitter.com/
  2. Search for keywords with and without the # sign.    Example:  relaxation  #relaxation (this is a hashtag)
  3. Look for tweets that include a shortened link to another site (often a bit.ly link).

A Twitter hashtag = #keyword
